Why has it taken so long, exactly?

According to a BBC spokesperson, ‘Allo ‘Allo (despite being popular in 50 countries) “had not been picked up in Germany until now due to the subject matter.”

A series that pokes as much fun at the British, Italians and French banned from German airwaves because of its subject manner?!

A series that poked fun at the Nazis, and the Gestapo, rather than in some way glorifying them (a crime in Germany)?!

It might be that the famous “British sense of humour” has been aimed a bit too high over the heads of the Germans. But surely even they would find funny the idea of an English agent undercover as a gendarme mispronouncing his French?

Rather than the German’s being offended by the subject matter, they have in fact admitted that for the past 23 years they’ve displayed a distinct lack of a sense of humour.
