Apparently filming of Benidorm takes place off-season (no surprises there…)

We film it in the off season so there are a lot of pensioners but they tend not to vomit too much. We film around the top third of the pool with the swim-up bar but the people who have booked their holidays don’t know about it, it doesn’t tell them in the brochure. Sometimes they aren’t happy and march up and sit on our sun loungers. They have to be politely escorted away.

There’s no chip on Steve’s shoulder about being known for League of Gentlemen 10 years on:

No, I’m proud of what we did but now I’m getting a variety of work. I had to try other things. I’ve written a new series with [League co-star] Reece Shearsmith called Psychoville which we’ll start later this year.

A sequel to League? As dark and freaky?

Wait and see. We didn’t set out to make it like that but that’s how it’s ended up. TV producers say things go in cycles and we’d heard no one wanted any more dark comedy shows, so we tried to write something more upbeat. That didn’t last very long.
