OK so our previous claim of David Mitchell was a bit wide of the mark, but not it seems completely wrong!
According to the Daily Mail, one half of Armstrong and Miller is the favourite to become host of Channel 4’s word and numbers game Countdown.
Alexander Armstrong (known as “Xander” to his friends, just so you get an idea of his social standing) is set to screentest for the role in the near future, and with the show recorded in the space of 4 weeks each year shouldn’t dent his career as the face of Pimms in a series of increasingly irritating adverts, irritating casting in a series of irritating dramas, or irritating presence on Have I Got News for You as guest host.
Sadly it may impact on his only valid work as one half of an occasionally funny comedy act and as the voice of Super Computer Mr Smith in The Sarah Jane Adventures, but you can’t have everything.
According to sources:
‘Channel 4 likes him and Granada likes him. It is his to lose. This could be a real opportunity to reinvent the show and reconnect with the audience. He fits the current direction we are travelling in.’
Did they say “reconnect”…?
