Well, what can you say – it’s split the nation, pretty much like the subject matter, but Britain’s got the Pop Factor and Possibly a New Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice was an absolute triumph for Peter Kay and Channel 4 on Sunday evening.

If you missed it – shame on you! Among the gems were the acts – R Wayne (a lad from the North East), paraplegic wife and fully able husband four piece Two Up Two Down and of course Peter Kay as transsexual singer and eventual winner Geraldine McQueen.

The level of detail across the two hours was something that requires multiple viewings, with particular highpoints being the contestants’ “journeys” and the various performances.

Special praise too to Cat Deeley who brought a level of reality to proceedings in much the same was as Jamie Theakston in Lucas and Walliams’ Rock Profiles on UK Play 10 years ago.

A big thank you however to Peter Kay, who brought some much needed mirror holding to us all. This day and age of lapping up the “reality” talent show that lets the winners owe £1 million should by rights be dead and buried, but here we are celebrating a much overdue spoof 7 years after Pop Idol first aired.

Its crazy – but thankfully via Kay gave us the sight of a man flipping pancakes on a unicycle while singing, another man getting “the wrong dog” to leap through a hoop and the wonderfully dark moment of R Wayne being brought back into the competition after R Gran’s heart attack following news of his dismissal.

Britain’s got the Pop Factor and Possibly a New Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice had everything you would expect of such a talent competition, and was as affectionate as it was cutting.

A triumph.
