Up Yours Cowell

Apparently, Simon Cowell tuned in to Peter Kay’s Britain’s Got the Pop Factor… and found it clever – but considers Winners Song “pathetic” and “a waste of time”.

Just held off the top by US scary lady Pink, Peter Kay as Geraldine McQueen nevertheless embarrassed Cowell and his latest protege Leon thingy, who won last years X Factor and is as interesting as a bucket full of toe nail clippings.

I’m not saying it’s a case of sour grapes or anything, but let’s face it – most of this years X Factor contestants are more interested and talented than Leon.

And if Cowell finds Winners Song pathetic, perhaps he should listen to one or two of the loathsome dirges he makes the X Factor winners record year in year out. Personally I don’t find Winners Song particularly offensive either as a record or as a statement of “it can be better than this, mate”.

What do you think?

It’s worth noting as well that this is the first comedy related song in the charts for quite some time, and the highest placed (number 2!) since Spitting Image’s The Chicken Song in 1986 (I think the last before that was Joe Dolce Music Theatre’s Shaddup You Face in 1981. Happy days…)
