Green Grow My Nadgers, Oh!
August 10th, 2008Would I Lie To You? Mitchell is the Star
August 9th, 2008A superb episode of Would I Lie To You? this week proved without a shadow of a doubt that despite the dry acerbic put downs of Angus Deayton and the cheerful northern humour of Lee Mack, David Mitchell is without a doubt the show’s star.
Not bad going either, as this week he was up against Hugh Dennis, no stranger to comedy panel game shows, and quite a good liar, it turns out.
And despite losing to Lee Mack’s team, Mitchell - accompanied by Peep Show co-star Olivia Colman and Peter Serafinowicz - was the best value of the evening once more, with several accusatory rants against the obvious lies of Lee Mack and his team.
It’s like Call My Bluff with content.

James. Corden. So over-rated and pointless I can barely say the name as a part of a sentence for fear of lapsing into a coma.
Yes, this is Quintessential Comedy, the place where we celebrate the best in British Comedy.
But just sometimes the worst gets a mention.
Mong and Bint is fucking shit. Fact. Not only that but its various established stars should give back the money they were paid for appearing in it, and the BBC should give the budget to Children in Need. It’s charmless, pointless, fake, dull, cliched, hackneyed, dreary and not funny. Read the rest of this entry »

August 7th, 2008Just Carry On…
August 6th, 2008The Carry On series ran from 1958 till 1978 and other than a brief stop off in the New World in 1992’s Carry On Columbus has never managed to get back on its feet. Personally I would fund a new movie like a shot if I had the money… perhaps producers should consider a public funding project?
As for casting - well they need a team don’t they, a company of the best of British comedy acting talent who could happily be drawn from for any future releases. Read the rest of this entry »
Red Dwarf: “Tongue Tied”
August 6th, 2008Rambling Syd Rumpo
August 5th, 2008Back in the midsts of time, Little Britain was represented by the affable Kenneth Horne who took a weekly jaunt in front of a live studio audience through meetings with a bewilderingly insane bunch of characters, played by Kenneth Williams, Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden and Bill Pertwee.
One of the most wonderful creations in Round the Horne was Rambling Syd Rumpo himself, played by Kenneth Williams. The archaic and anarchic folk singer brought an added degree of wonder, whimsy and downright rudeness to a series that expressed double entendre after double entendre week after week on radio, seemingly above the radar of the BBC censors.
Here, then, is the lyrics to one of Rambling Syd’s greatest hits. To the tune of “Green Go My Rushes-oh”: Read the rest of this entry »
